Neoplastic Disorders of Ocular Surface

Objectives: Upon completion of this conference the resident/student should have an understanding of neoplastic disorders of the ocular surface and should be able to:

  • Review the microanatomy of the eyelid skin and ocular surface
  • Define histopathologic processes and conditions of the ocular surface including tumor, neoplasia, dysplasia and anaplasia
  • Discuss the basic principles of oncogenesis, diagnostic approaches to neoplastic disease and the approach to management of these conditions
  • Describe the epidemiology, causes, characteristics and management of neoplastic disorders including:
    • Epithelial cysts
    • Benign, pre-invasive and malignant epithelial tumors
    • Glandular tumors of the conjunctiva
    • Neuroectodermal tumors
    • Vascular and mesenchymal tumors
    • Lymphatic and lymphocytic tumors
    • Metastatic tumors
    • Epibulbar choristomas
