Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma / Plateau Iris Syndrome / Gonioscopy

Objectives:Upon completion of this conference the resident/student should have an understanding of angle-closure glaucoma and should be able to

  • Describe the Pathogenesis and Pathophysiology of angle closure including
    • Pupillary block
    • Angle closure without papillary block
    • Lens-induced angle closure
    • Iris-induced angle closure
  • Describe the clinical features, differential diagnosis, diagnostic evaluation, therapy and prognosis of
    • Primary Angle Closure
    • Plateau Iris

Objectives: Upon completion of this conference the resident/student should have an understanding of the role of gonioscopy in the management of glaucoma and should be able to

  • Define and describe the direct ,indirect and dynamic gonioscopy
  • Describe the landmarks seen on gonioscopic exam
  • List and describe the various grading systems for documentation of gonioscopic findings
  • List and describe additional findings that can be seen during the gonioscopy exam

Assignment: Please read the Gonioscopy Section in Chapter 3 Clinical Evaluation in the Glaucoma book from the BCSC Series. In addition, please study from the following sections on the gonioscopy.org website: Introductory Material, Basic Examination, The Normal Angle and Angle Grading.
