The Pupil

Objectives: Upon completion of this conference the resident/student should be able to:

  • Describe the clinical approach to the patient with pupillary disorders including:
    • anisocoria
    • irregular pupils
    • light near dissociation
    • afferent pupillary defect

Assignment: Please read The Patient with Pupillary Abnormalities, Ch 10 of the BCSC series.

In addition, it will be helpful to review:

  • Neuro-ophthalmic anatomy, the section on "Ocular Autonomic Pathways"
  • The Patient with Decreased Vision: Evaluation, the section on Pupillary Testing
