"Glaucomatous Damage to the Macula: Structure vs. Function Relationships" Dr. C. Gustavo De Moraes is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmic Sciences and the Director of Clinical Trials of the Department of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical Center. His primary research interests are in the development and validation of novel techniques for glaucoma diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. De Moraes completed his Glaucoma fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (NYEEI), followed by 5 years as Head of Research at the Einhorn Clinical Research Center of the NYEEI and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at New York University (NYU). Dr. De Moraes is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), American Glaucoma Society (AGS), Education Committee of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA), and the Guidelines Committee of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO). Dr. De Moraes serves as reviewer for high-impact factor journals in Ophthalmology and is section-editor of the Journal of Glaucoma, Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology, Asia Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology, and Translational Vision Science and Technology. He has authored 10 book chapters in Ophthalmology and Glaucoma, co-authored and co-chaired the Consensus on Diagnosis of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma, Consensus on Medical Treatment of Glaucoma, and Consensus on Glaucoma Progression of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA).
He is currently the principal investigator of a National Eye Institute R01 grant on Progression of Glaucomatous Damage to the Macula.
